Did you know that in 2015 City Council combined the positions of Director of Finance and City Manager into one position? Neither did we!
UPDATE, MAY 6, 2022: Assistant Finance Director and Treasurer Abigail Hernandez-Conde was promoted to Finance Director in February 2022. We became aware of the promotion in the agenda for the April 26 Council meeting, as Council approval was needed to add the position of Treasurer to an already existing appointment. The City released a social media announcement on May 6.
City Manager / Finance Director Frank Luckino was responsible for the promotion, effectively replacing himself in the position. It’s unclear whether the position of Finance Director requires Council review and whether the change in the City Manager’s responsibilities affects his contracted salary. We are researching these questions and will write in greater depth once the results of our public information request are received.
