Join our new Desert Trumpet subscriber chat
We're celebrating 400 subscribers with a private space for us to converse and connect
UPDATE 12/11/2022: Chat is now available on Android!
In celebration of reaching 400 subscribers, we’re announcing a brand new addition to The Desert Trumpet: live subscriber chat. We think this will be a great tool for getting to know each other, sharing information and discussing issues facing our City. We’re kicking our chat off TODAY and will live chat tonight’s (November 8) City Council meeting and the election results starting at 6pm.
Here are the details and how to participate:
As you probably know, The Desert Trumpet is published on Substack. Although many of our readers access our articles via a browser, Substack also has a useful reader app for iOS and Android devices. Last week Substack released live chat for iOS devices, with browser and Android versions “coming very soon.” That the new chat feature isn’t available on all platforms is annoying but given the timing we’re going to dive in. Don’t hate us Android users!
This new conversation space in the Substack app is exclusively for our subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout. We’ll post updates that come our way, and you can jump into the discussion. And as we mentioned, we’ll live chat City of Twentynine Palms City Council, Planning Commission and other meetings whenever possible.
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app (messages are sent via the app, not email). While Substack recommends turning on push notifications “so you don’t miss a chance to join conversation as it happens” we’ve found the number of notifications can be disruptive so enabling them is entirely up to you! After all if the chat is open on your iPhone or iPad you will see if people are interacting.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Chat is only on iOS for now, but chat is coming to the Android app soon.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into our thread to say hi with a voting selfie or just tell us where you’re chatting from and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
Ps. you may also receive an auto generated email from Substack once the chat is open for the very first time….but that will only happen once, we promise.
