“Often controversial” should say always controversial to a small handful nimby’s. As usual it’s a small group of people. In this case it’s folks that have used this property as their own for years while someone else paid the taxes on it.
After talking at length with the Offland people and reviewing the particulars of the project I fully endorse the resort. This is not their first venture. The resort near Moab Utah is a classy upscale project. 29 Palms could use a bit of class.
I am glad that city of Twentynine Palms will not be allowed to shit on our neigbors without a fight. The city does not follow the law and deserves to be sued.
Opposition pure and simple. The developers were naive in thinking the community would let the project move forward without a full EIR. I do find it humorous that the basis for a suit is disturbing native animals. Just avoid them during the course of construction and they will be fine. They will be back as soon as they can and there are plenty of places for the many rattlers, mice and rats, coyote and the occasional tortoise. Air pollution? Right. A drive down any dirt road in the area faster than 7mph does more harm to the air quality than many cars in a paved road.
City Manager Stone James’ comment regarding NIMBYism re: the Ofland project in the LATimes article are unoriginal; usurped from any of the many stories over the years about people being against development. No! Citizens are against the lack of procedural conduct displayed, time and time again, by the city leaders during the process of granting the Texas based Ofland project the “OK” to flagrantly destroy a vital Wildlife Corridor. Among a lot of other impactful issues that the city leaders simply chose to ignore. Their combined behaviors are a slap in the face to the citizens of Twentynine Palms. When the time comes…VOTE! That is using your own voice.
Good work! Thank you, Center for Biological Diversity and Indian Cove Neighbors!

I am a longtime supporter of the center. So happy they are using my money well!

Thank you for taking the necessary steps to encourage the City and developers to approach this project correctly.
