"Limit vacation rentals in neighborhoods"
Letter to the Editor by 29 Palms Neighbors, Published in the Hi-Desert Star / Desert Trail,, Hi-Desert Star / Desert Trail, August 17, 2021
Twentynine Palms Neighbors supports limits on short-term vacation rentals. However, we believe caps based on a percentage of available single-family residences do not address the core issue: the clustering of short-term vacation rentals in several of our neighborhoods.
Homes with permanent longtime residents are being surrounded by commercial short-term vacation rentals, altering the character of our desert neighborhoods.
Twentynine Palms Neighbors endorses petitions which advocate for limits based on short-term vacation rental density such as the petition circulated by Preserve 29 Palms on change.org.
Twentynine Palms Neighbors also supports the immediate temporary moratorium recommended by the planning commission that will be voted on at the Aug. 24 city council meeting.
We look forward to speaking with all of our neighbors about short term rentals, redistricting and more at the Twentynine Palms Farmers Market on Aug. 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
