The 29 Palms City Council voted 5-0 last night to enact limits on STVHRs. Advocates of limits applauded after the unanimous vote.

Fixed cap of 500 permits. The cap will be reevaluated based on housing statistics in the 2030 census.
Limit of 5 permits per entity, based on financial interest.
“Use it or lose it” clause: Permits will be withdrawn if inactive, permit holders much show 1 night of rental per year to retain permit.
STVHRS have a 1 night minimum rental (this was changed from 2 night minimum)
The current STVHR count is 264 active permits; 122 pending permits; 61 closed.
The second reading of the ordinance may take place as early as the next City Council meeting on May 24, and the revised ordinance would take effect 30 days after that vote.
