Hi Clyde, thanks for your comment and for being a dedicated reader! Your comment reminded us that we need to be clearer about our fiscal receiver, AHA Projects. We are operating as a 501c3 non profit under their umbrella, which is explained under our "About" tab and under our" Support Us" tab but was not in the pitch in the articles themselves.
The donation goes to The Desert Trumpet, but is processed by AHA Projects, who then holds the funds on our behalf, issues our payments, does our accounting for us, etc.. To make this clearer, we've added a line to our subscription / donation paragraph that reads "Please note that your donation/subscription will be listed as AHA Projects, the name of our fiscal receiver, on your statement."
For our first nearly two years of existence, Desert Trumpet was an all volunteer effort. But that was quickly becoming untenable as we all strained to hold down our freelance and regular jobs while also writing for the Desert Trumpet. Going non profit and accepting donations has allowed us to guarantee the 29 Palms City Hall coverage at the core of our mission but also work towards expanding our staff and coverage to better report on elections, various City committees, and issues affecting the Morongo Basin. We are also planning two live events this year - a town hall on June 8 on envisioning the future of 29 Palms and a forum in October for the public to ask question of candidates for City Council.
Feel free to reply if you have further questions! We always appreciate your comments, Clyde.
Who is AHA Projects ? their website does not really explain who they are.
What would this $2500 / $10,000 donation pay for / to ??
