Great question. While we'd all like to see Planning Commissioners from different parts of town and and different districts, they are not appointed by district. This makes it possible to have two Planning Commissioners from District 2 and none from District 1 for instance.
They've also tended to be associated with the Base in their employment. We've been advocating for Planning Commissioner to be evenly distributed across the 5 districts and to represent the diversity of 29 Palms in all respects including what they do for a living. This improved with the appointments of Jessica Cure and Alex Garcia....so now only Max Walker, Leslie Paahana and Jim Krushat have defense related positions.
It should be noted that within a year two of those appointments -- Eileen Leslle and Jason Dixon stepped down. We plan to republish the editorial with an update prior the Planning Commission application deadline of January 6.
I read that there are two Planning Commission vacancies that need to be filled. However I could only find the mention of District !.
