Thank you, Kat, for debunking the false claims about who attended the town hall Saturday. People, all of us, who live in the Morongo Basin deserve to be heard, not dismissed. Thank you.
I was there with my husband. I was not yelling just holding my signs and listening. I was almost hit in the face by the man in front of me when he stood up and told the crowd to “shut the f up”. He saw my sign and swiped his cane to try and hit me. Thankfully he was removed but came back in ten minutes later.
The House did vote for a 19.5% junior enlisted pay raise for the FY 2025 NDAA, but the reconciliation bill with the Senate whittled it down to 14.5%. Facts should matter especially when attempting footnotes! People can express their opinions but what happened Saturday was uncalled for especially with the foul language and general lack of civility!
Thank you for this well written documentation of this event. I greatly appreciate the work that the Desert Trumpet does to keep our community informed.
Obernolte is all in 100% for trump's deconstruction of America (check out his website). During the Malibu and Altadena-LA fires Obernolte was at Mar-A-Logo dining with trump (part of Obernault's district includes LA). Obernolte does not represent me or my views. He's one of the so-called spineless trump psycophantic congressmembers. Obernolte is a danger" to democracy, and one of the richest members in congress ($97.89 million) who voted against verifying Joe Biden's 2020 electorial win.
The myth that dissent comes only from outside a community is universal and as old as the hills. I speak as an oldster who was reading about "outside agitators" being responsible for instances of political unrest way back in the 1970s (when I was a young woman in the UK).
This piece shows that The Desert Trumpet fills a crucial role for its readership, providing the kind of old-school reporting that Trump et al are trying to stifle: the recounting of objective facts complete with verification of claims made by those featured in the story. I live a long way from the area served by The Desert Trumpet, but I hope you guys in Southern CA never let it go out of business!

excellent images. links will help stir the pot. Uncle Sam's downward spiral seems unreversible.
Thank you for emphasizing the point that no one was "bussed in..."
