I can’t believe the shortsightedness of people. Even having the main dirt roads maintained a few times a year makes a huge difference in the quality of said roads. Why people would rather pay $1500 to $3000 a year on car repairs due to bad roads vs. $70 to $100 a year on their property taxes just baffles me. I have a property in Landers that is affected by this, and currently live in a Joshua Tree neighborhood that decided not to pay the tax fee back in the ‘80s to maintain a paved road. The pavement is now broken up and the only access is to drive on the left shoulder, as the right shoulder is washed out entirely. Cars have to wait at each end for the other to pass through, or navigate the broken asphalt and deep potholes.
