I’m new to the FLOCK camera issue. Is there any reporting that explains how the FLOCK program came to Twentynine Palms? Did the city council support the program? Who paid for it? Any history or documents that would show the program implementation process would be helpful. Thanks, Herbert Mark

It’s a lot to recap here but if you search on Flock in our publication, most of what you’re asking is covered.

Hi, why did you not report which councilmember directed staff to respond to your records request in a manner that violated the law? Do you not know, or are you just not saying? If the latter, why? Curious.

We didn’t use those words, but we did write “a practice inconsistent with the City’s obligation under the California Public Records Act.” I think that’s as far as we can go without seeking a legal consultation, and yes, we are hoping to consult an attorney.

A common practice is report someone else's speculation, and then say that you were not able to independently confirm anything. Anyone can sue anyone for anything, and truth is a defense against defamation. As it is your reading public is reading tea leaves, in my case not very successfully. I regret that I am not sufficiently schooled in municipal intrigue to follow along. Perhaps I am not the only one.

Wow, talk about an overly negative spin on a great project. These guys are local Marines trying to bring housing and services to justice-involved veterans, and this write-up treats them like they're hiding something.

Complaining about APN numbers or the fact that Council didn't take a vote completely misses the point. It was an introductory presentation to see if the town would welcome the project, not a final contract approval. If you had questions about their funding or timeline, why didn't you just pick up the phone and call them?

I saw this team at the East Regional Steering Committee and they were incredibly transparent, answering questions and working directly with Supervisor Dawn Rowe's staff and the County. It feels like this article is just trying to create skepticism out of thin air. We should be welcoming a project like this with open arms, not trying to tear it down before it even starts.

Hi — for some reason your comment posted 4x so we removed the duplicates.

We agree it’s a great project — we called it valiant and noted the applause. But in our opinion it was brought to Council prematurely by the prior City Manager who failed to make sure all the information was in place and prepare them for success. When it was first on an agenda they hadn’t even resolved whether it was in the City limits or unincorporated SB County.

A similar issue existed with the JTNP Association project that was recently presented — also a great project, but the prior City Manager failed to tell them about the other projects planned for the City parcel they were hoping to build on.

We’ve argued for some time that projects should be reviewed for accuracy and vetted for required components BEFORE presenting to Council. REL are in touch with the new City Manager now, and hopefully they will return to Council with everything in order and get what they need, so the project can move forward in 29 Palms.
