Format and Topics

The Town Hall will address four topics crucial to the future of Twentynine Palms:

Creating an affordable and sustainable City
Balancing development with maintenance of our desert ecosystem
Creating an inclusive community
What does positive change look like?

The three guest speakers will offer brief introductory remarks before the discussion begins. We’ll allot each topic 25 minutes for public discussion and brainstorming.

Topics details and potential questions:

  • Creating an affordable and sustainable City

    • Do the 5 General Plan principles still stand? Do they need updating? What about affordable housing?

  • Balancing development with maintenance of our desert ecosystem

  • Creating an inclusive community

    • How do we combat social isolation?

    • How can we be more welcoming to marginalized communities?

    • How can we better support our kids and seniors?

  • What does positive change look like?

  1. General Plan Guiding Principles (2012)

  2. Promote a high quality of life while preserving the City’s desert, small-town feel.

  3. Encourage high quality development compatible with the Joshua Tree National Park, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center and the City’s desert, small-town character.

  4. Develop a strong and diversified local economy with a focus on arts, cultural, tourism, retail, job growth and overall quality of life for all community members.

  5. Preserve the desert environment and its natural and cultural resources for future generations.

  6. Promote sustainable and adaptable growth principles in the development of the City.
